OpenBSD has in the last 18 months been partly funded by a DARPA grant, through UPENN, the so called POSSE program. In a message to the misc@openbsd.org mailing list Theo de Raadt writes:

It has come to my attention that DARPA has cancelled the POSSE program with UPENN, (sub OpenBSD & a bit for OpenSSL) for undisclosed reasons, effective today, without any warning.

My suspicion is this happened because I made anti-war statements in a Canadian newspaper article in the Globe & Mail, but I am not an American citizen so I cannot claim to have free speech there (even made "quote of the day").

If the reason, which I suspect we'll never really get to know, is Theos statements, then this is really pettiness down at a level you'd normally only find among 12-year old school-girls, in dictatorships like the just terminated one in Iraq and that sort of places. It's despicable.
