There are far too much money involved in professional sports to keep them honest. I'm convinced that professional cycling is infested with liars and cheaters, and I do not believe there's any remotely mainstream professional sport left clean from drug abuse and corruption.
Marco Pantani died yesterday, alone in a hotel-room. He had it all in the late 90'es, but all the doping accusations against him probably wore him down. Pantani was a great cyclist, but as so many others in that sport I think he had to use doping to compete at the absolute top level, yet he wished he didn't. I think that conflict killed him in the end. It would have killed me.
There are no idols left in professional sports, you can only reach the top if you have no integrity and moral, if you cheat.
