OpenBSD 3.6 released

Oct 29, 2004

Theo de Raadt just announced OpenBSD 3.6 with lots of improvements.

Theo also used the occasion to mention the effort to get better support for hardware. On the recieving end this time is Texas Instruments and Intel for firmware to wireless chipsets. Last night I spent an hour writing a mail to the 19 Intel addresses given and explain that the future licensing of the firmware will be a significant factor in my decision to buy either an IBM ThinkPad X40, chock full of Intel produced chips, or an Apple PowerBook G4 with no Intel chips in it.

The activism has paid off, and even made the regular news stream.
