This time a generation closer to me.
My aunt Beth, my mothers older sister, has been diagnosed with cancer. For a long time she thought it was just rheumatism, but then she started having trouble with her lungs and the tests began. Two days ago she got the results of a full body scan. They've so far found cancer cells in fluid in her lungs, in her spine and a tumor on the lung as far as I've heard. It sounds completely hopeless.
I haven't talked to her yet. I feel like it will get too real and too close as soon as I talk to her, and I need some time to adjust to the sad facts. I'll try and write her an email today, Beth and her husband Jens are probably tired of talking on the phone by now.
