Liebach v3.0 alpha

Disable Genre in the iTunes 8 Browser

Normally iTunes updates doesn't really bother me, they change the feature set, but normally it's things I don't really care for anyway.

Not so with the latest update to 8.0, as it removed the preference for not displaying the Genre pane in the browser. I think in two genres, “Good Music” and “Bad Music”, and “Bad Music” simply doesn't make it to my library anyway, so I'm very annoyed when I have to deal with a whole bunch of nonsensical genres.

Luckily there's one of the usual defaults(1) commands to rectify the error:

defaults write show-genre-when-browsing -bool FALSE

Much better. See the rest of the tips on Mac OS X hints for the other preferences they have removed.
